Civil contracting
The civil scope around plant and pipeline work — the part that is nobody’s headline and everybody’s delay.
Mechanical packages generate civil work: a chamber for a valve, a thrust block at a bend, a plinth for a pump, a trench to be reinstated to the road authority’s specification. Let separately, this work sits on the critical path and answers to a different programme. Held together with the mechanical scope, it disappears into the sequence.
Scope
- Excavation, shoring interface, backfill and compaction
- Pipeline civils — bedding, surround, thrust blocks and anchor blocks
- Manholes, valve chambers and inspection chambers
- Plinths, bases and equipment foundations
- Road and footpath reinstatement to authority specification
- Storm water and drainage networks, including connection to existing systems
Why we hold it
Every interface between two subcontractors is a place where a programme leaks. On a pipeline, the sequence runs excavate, support, lay, weld, test, surround, backfill, reinstate — and six of those eight steps are civil. Splitting the package means coordinating two companies through a sequence that one crew can simply work through.
The shoring and dewatering that this work usually needs are ours as well.
