Dewatering

Dewatering services

Eleven diesel pump sets, six sedimentation tanks and over 400 metres of discharge hose — owned, maintained and run by our own crews.

Bahrain’s water table is shallow enough that most excavations of any depth meet it. Dewatering is not an optional refinement here; it is the thing that decides whether the excavation can be worked in at all.

Two systems, chosen by ground

Wellpoint dewatering

A ring of closely spaced shallow wellpoints connected to a common header and a vacuum pump. Effective for drawdown of a few metres in permeable sandy ground, quick to install and quick to move. The standard answer for pipeline trenches and shallow basements.

Deep well dewatering

Individually pumped bores with submersible pumps, drawing down over a wider radius and to a greater depth. Slower and more expensive to install, and the only option where the drawdown required exceeds what suction can deliver or where the formation is less permeable.

Discharge is the part that catches people out

Abstracting the water is straightforward. Discharging it legally is not. Groundwater carrying suspended solids cannot simply be put into the storm system, so our six sedimentation tanks sit between the pumps and the discharge point and the consent conditions are met by design rather than by argument afterwards.

Plant

  • Eleven diesel pump sets, 6-inch and 4-inch, on Kirloskar engines
  • Six sedimentation tanks
  • Over 400 metres of discharge hose
  • Wellpoint headers, risers and jetting equipment
  • Submersible pumps and controls for deep well installations
  • Standby sets to keep drawdown continuous through maintenance
Continuity matters more than capacity. A dewatering system that stops for four hours can undo a week of drawdown and, worse, allow heave in the formation. Standby capacity and fuel management are part of the proposal, not an afterthought.

Standards we work to

  • BS EN 1997-1

Common questions

What clients ask before awarding

Wellpoint or deep well — which do I need?
It follows from the required drawdown and the permeability of the formation. Wellpoints suit a few metres of drawdown in permeable sand and install quickly. Deep wells are for greater depth or less permeable ground. Send the borehole logs and the excavation depth and we will size the system.
How do you handle the discharge?
Through sedimentation tanks before discharge, so suspended solids meet the consent conditions. We own six tanks and over 400 metres of discharge hose, and the discharge route is agreed as part of the proposal rather than left to site.
What happens if a pump fails overnight?
Standby capacity is built into the system and fuel management is scheduled. A stoppage of a few hours can undo days of drawdown and risk heave in the formation, so continuity is designed in rather than hoped for.
Can you combine dewatering with shoring?
Yes, and we would recommend it. We own both fleets and run both scopes, which means the drawdown programme and the sheet pile driving sequence are planned by the same project manager. See sheet pile shoring.

Send us the drawings. We will tell you what it takes.
