Sheet pile shoring

Sheet pile shoring

Three vibro hammers, owned outright — enough to work two faces at once and still hold a spare when one goes down.

Deep excavation in Bahrain means retaining ground that is often loose, often saturated and usually close to something that must not move. Sheet piling answers that where a battered slope has no room and a secant wall is disproportionate.

Plant we own

  • ICE Netherlands vibro hammer
  • Alkor Korea vibro hammer
  • 22-tonne SY220 vibro hammer
  • Hyundai 220LC-9S excavators, 21.5 T, and Fiat Kobelco 21.1 T
  • Backhoe loader and rock breaker attachments

Three hammers is a deliberate choice, not an accident of procurement. Two allow parallel working on separate faces; the third means a breakdown costs a day rather than a programme.

Shoring and dewatering together

Retention and groundwater are a single problem. A wall that is driven to the correct toe level but is not supported by a drawdown programme will see water find its way under it; a drawdown programme without retention draws the surrounding ground in with the water. We run both scopes, which is the argument for not splitting them between two subcontractors. See dewatering services.

Scope

  • Sheet pile driving — vibrated and, where ground demands, impact driven
  • Walings, props and bracing to the temporary works design
  • Pile extraction and reinstatement on completion
  • Excavation, muck away and formation preparation
  • Monitoring of adjacent structures where proximity requires it
  • Sheet pile sections, hammers and excavators available on hire
Design: temporary works design is issued through a Bahrain-licensed structural engineering office that reviews and stamps the calculations. We execute to a stamped design; we do not self-certify it.

Common questions

What clients ask before awarding

How deep can you shore?
Depth is governed by the ground investigation, the section modulus of the pile and the propping arrangement rather than by a single figure. Send the borehole logs and the excavation geometry and the temporary works design will give you a toe level and a propping scheme.
Do you provide the shoring design?
The design is produced and issued under the review and stamp of a Bahrain-licensed structural engineering office. We execute to that stamped design. We do not self-certify temporary works design.
Can you dewater as well as shore?
Yes, and we would normally recommend letting both to one contractor. We own eleven dewatering pump sets and six sedimentation tanks alongside the piling plant, so the drawdown programme and the driving sequence are planned together.
Do you hire out the piling plant?
Yes. Vibro hammers, excavators and sheet pile sections are available on hire, wet or dry. For vibro hammers we would usually recommend wet hire, because the operator matters more than the machine.

Send us the drawings. We will tell you what it takes.
